This project extends from de Lijnbaan to de Hoogstraat, and forms the connection between these two most important shopping promenades of Rotterdam. On the Van Oldebarneveltplaats, Beursplein and the Bulgersteynhof, recessed shopping streets, passageways, a parking garage and the buildings for the Bijenkorf and (formerly) V&D have been constructed. Along the Burgersteynhof, a 102 metre high residential tower with 112 recidences completes the project. On the Van Oldebarneveltplaats a tram viaduct has been integrated in the roof of the shops by using a sprung rail support. Besides the structural design, Zonneveld ingenieurs has also, at a very early planning stage, determined the phasing, and the rough estimate of the costs of building the basement construction. In doing this the complicated infrastructure of the city centre was taken into account. Traffic and pedestrian flows, pipes and cables, metro and tram all needed to function properly during construction. Moreover, the metro station and shops needed to be accessible at all times.
