Project climbing centre "Monte Cervino" consists of a sports building that is an abstract copy of the Matterhorn.
The building has been designed in prefab concrete. The formwork was formed with a mixture of sand and plaster, with which the shape and texture of natural rocks has been created. In order to match the length of a natural route, the building is around 33 m high. The outer surface mimics natural climbing walls in colour and texture. Furthermore, it is very important for climbing that the walls are vertical, sloped and have overhangs.
The building consists of the facilitating ground floor with a height of 3,2 m (with dressing rooms, an installation space, a kitchen, washrooms and a small restaurant) and the first floor where the climbing wall of around thirty metres high starts. This floor also features a terrace. The load-bearing structure consists of 64 large concrete elements that have been interconnected with articulated couplings and welding plates. These concrete slabs form nine storeys that basically exist out of stacked rings.
